Bitcoin volatility, stock market regressions, and long term trend analysis are the focus of this episode as Matthew compares Bitcoin’s behavior to blue chip stocks, gold, and silver. Using regression models and deviation analysis, he examines how major assets move around their long term growth trends and what that tells investors about risk and volatility. Matthew begins by looking at exponential trends for major companies like Apple, Amazon, Meta, Nvidia, and Procter & Gamble. Even the most successful blue chip stocks frequently deviate far from their trend lines, sometimes by large percentages. These swings can feel dramatic, but they are a normal part of long term exponential growth. He then contrasts these assets with Bitcoin, which does not follow an exponential curve. Instead, Bitcoin’s network growth follows a power law, meaning growth slows over time while still maintaining a strong long term upward trajectory. Despite recent market turbulence, the deviation of Bitcoin’s price from its power curve has actually been shrinking over time. Matthew shows that Bitcoin’s current volatility relative to its long term trend is now approaching levels similar to traditional stocks. While short term price moves can still feel extreme, the statistical structure of the network suggests that the asset is gradually stabilizing.
