Is TradFi really taking over Bitcoin? In this episode, Matthew tackles the narrative that institutional adoption—through ETFs, miners, and treasury companies—will smooth out Bitcoin’s volatility and suppress future bull runs. By comparing trading volume across Bitcoin spot markets, ETFs, and top public companies like MicroStrategy, the data shows a consistent truth: Bitcoin spot volume still leads. Even when TradFi Bitcoin volume reaches $20 to $30 billion, it pales in comparison to global BTC spot volume that regularly hits $50 billion or more—and sometimes over $180 billion. Matthew explores why the idea that “this time is different” doesn’t hold up historically. In 2017 and 2021, Bitcoin spot volume surged past global stock market volume, and the same conditions may be building again.
